Analysis Indicates Rising Premiums Pushing More Working Families To Enroll Children In Medicaid, CHIP.

McClatchy  (12/5, Pugh) reports the rising cost of health insurance is “causing more low-income parents to cover their children through federal programs even if they have job-based health coverage for themselves.” An analysis conducted by PolicyLab revealed that between 2008 and 2013, “the number of youngsters in low- and moderate-income families who were covered by Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program increased 20 percent.” Indeed, data show that for families earning “up to twice the federal poverty level in 2013,” that rate rose by 31 percent compared to 2008.
